More than 53,000 Western Plan volunteers are heading to grassroots service one after another

Recently, more than 53,000 newly recruited college student volunteers for the College Students’ Volunteer Service Program in the West from universities across the country have been setting out one after another to carry out volunteer services in western regions and at the grassroots level. On July 21, the National Project Office of the Western Program and the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League saw off the volunteers who were about to depart for service in Xinjiang and Tibet at Beijing West Railway Station. The volunteers’ representatives took an oath on site, and then set off.
According to reports, since registration for this year’s Western Program opened on March 1, it has attracted a large number of college graduates to participate. The program’s implementation scale has reached 108,000 people, and the newly recruited volunteers will be dispatched to grassroots areas in 27 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities including Xinjiang, Tibet, Jilin, and Guizhou, as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Their service covers rural education, rural development, healthy villages, grassroots social governance, safeguarding the border and defending the frontier, and grassroots youth work, with a service period of 1 to 3 years.
The Western Program is jointly organized and implemented by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, aiming to guide young people to serve and grow in the places where the country and the people need them most.
