The General Secretary Leads the High-Quality Development of Basic Education

On July 22, the National Basic Education Work Conference was held in Beijing. The conference conveyed General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on basic education work made recently, and made arrangements for the highquality development of basic education on the new journey. The article points out that education is an important foundation for building a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the CPC Central Committee has placed education in a strategic position of priority development, promoting significant progress in China’s basic education. Its level of universal access and many key indicators have reached or exceeded the average level of middle and highincome countries, and the levels of preschool education and compulsory education are close to the average level of highincome countries. The article states that the General Secretary’s important instructions are highly directional and guiding, providing a basis for the reform and development of basic education in the new era, and also charting the path for further implementing the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and improving education quality.
