Housing pledge missing rental management raises the need for tenant policies

Real estate pledges are not enough with supply expansion alone Check out rental management and measures against jeonse fraud as well

With the June 3 local elections approaching, Seoul’s real estate pledges are focusing on expanding supply and speeding up redevelopment, while Gawon, executive director of the tenant rights group Minsnail Union, pointed out that policies that leave out rental market management are only half measures. In an interview on the 6th, Gawon said that in a situation where the burden of jeonse and monthly rent has grown, it is difficult to ensure housing stability through simple supply expansion alone, and added that tenantcentered measures such as rent control and prevention of jeonse fraud are also needed. He emphasized that despite the Special Act on Jeonse Fraud and the recent amendment, there are still insufficient systems to improve the rental market itself, and that concrete housing policies tailored to local conditions and active responses by local governments should become key election issues.
