People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk dismisses calls to step down, expanding controversy over internal party discipline

Jang Donghyeok, the leader of the People Power Party, made it clear on the 29th that he would not step down in response to calls for his resignation within the party. Leader Jang disclosed remarks from a closed Supreme Council meeting on Facebook, saying that he had no intention of resigning regardless of what opinions were raised at the parliamentary caucus meeting or the Supreme Council meeting. At the public Supreme Council meeting that day, Woo Jaejun, a youth Supreme Council member from the proHan faction, and Kim Minsu, a Supreme Council member from the party leadership bloc, engaged in a heated exchange over Leader Jang's future. Supreme Council member Woo argued that the leader should take responsibility in a situation where internal conflict has intensified, while Supreme Council member Kim countered by criticizing the fact that he had publicly criticized the party leader. It was also caught on camera that Rep. Kang Myeonggu, the party's deputy chief of organization, was checking a message about a disciplinary target that appeared to have been received from a party official. The message reportedly contained the names of some lawmakers and stated that, even if it was not a severe disciplinary measure such as suspension of party membership rights, there could still be a warninglevel disciplinary action.
