On August 2, the Department of Emergency Management of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region released the investigation report on the major container explosion accident at Baogang Plate Factory. The report concluded that this accident was a major production safety liability accident, and 62 related personnel have already been held accountable. The investigation showed that the accident occurred on January 18, 2026, causing 10 deaths, 84 injuries, and direct economic losses of 67.23 million yuan. The report pointed out that the No. 1 spherical tank had long been subjected to corrosion from the medium as well as the combined effects of stress and load, leading to composite damage to the tank body and eventually a leak; after no effective disposal measures were taken, the pressure continued to rise, and the spherical tank rapidly tore apart and triggered the explosion. The report also mentioned that there were problems involving the enterprises concerned, inspection institutions, as well as regulatory departments and local Party committees and governments. Relevant parties have already taken accountability measures. Among them, 7 personnel from the plate factory were approved for arrest on suspicion of committing crimes, and 6 others are recommended to be transferred to judicial authorities for investigation.
