Crime victims demand greater consistency in case handling and stronger victim protection
Strengthen protection for stalking victims, and make police case-handling standards consistent Reduce the risk of reoffending through information on court-appointed lawyers and smart watches, and by notifying the offender
Victims of crimes such as stalking have called for the police to make case handling standards more consistent and strengthen guidance on victim protection ahead of the launch of the new criminal justice system.
According to an article on the 30th, victims pointed out as a problem the reality that the level of investigation and protection varies greatly depending on the officer in charge. In particular, voices were raised that protection systems such as public defenders, provision of smartwatches, and emergency, urgent, and temporary measures should be mandatorily explained from the initial report stage.
The victims also stressed the need to strengthen monitoring of and notification to offenders. The argument is that if violations of nocontact orders are responded to immediately, and key information such as the progress of the investigation and whether the suspect is detained or released is provided to victims, it will be possible to prepare for the risk of repeat offenses and retaliation.
