Government Responds to U.S. Republican Party's Complaint Letter on Coupang

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the 6th that it had replied to the protest letter sent by Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives regarding Coupang. The government explained that the measures concerning Coupang are being carried out in a nondiscriminatory and fair manner in accordance with domestic laws and regulations. The Korean Embassy in the United States sent a reply, in the name of Ambassador Kang Kyungwha to the United States, to the joint letter from Republican lawmakers that raised the issue of discrimination against U.S. digital companies, including Coupang. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it will continue to explain the relevant matters to the U.S. Congress while maintaining the principle of nondiscrimination. Earlier, 54 Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives sent a letter urging the suspension of discriminatory regulatory measures against U.S. companies doing business in Korea. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reviewed the relevant response with the ministries concerned before sending the reply.
