Wang Yi Holds Phone Call with Iranian Foreign Minister, Discussing the First-Phase Memorandum of Understanding Between Iran and the U.S.
Iranian Foreign Minister spoke by phone with Wang Yi, focusing on progress in the first-phase memorandum of understanding between Iran and the U.S. The Chinese side supports resolving differences through dialogue and will continue promoting regional peace and stability
On June 17, Wang Yi, a Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a phone call at the request of Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi. The two sides exchanged views on the relevant situation after Iran and the United States reached a firststage memorandum of understanding.
Araghchi briefed Wang on the progress of the talks and thanked the Chinese side for its positive role in promoting dialogue and reaching an agreement. He said he hoped the relevant arrangements could be effectively implemented, and looked forward to continuing to strengthen mutual trust between China and Iran as well as cooperation in various fields.
Wang Yi said that China welcomes the firststage memorandum of understanding reached between Iran and the United States, and believes that dialogue and negotiation are the right way to resolve problems. China supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and legitimate rights and demands, and is also willing to continue strengthening communication and coordination with the Iranian side to play a role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
