As former President Yoon Sukyeol was sentenced in the first trial on charges of publishing false information under the Public Official Election Act to 1 year and 6 months in prison, suspended for 3 years, the People Power Party has been put in a position where it may have to return the 39.7 billion won in election expenses it received after the 2022 presidential election. The People Power Party said it is preparing countermeasures while believing the ruling could change on appeal. The party leadership drew a line at the possibility of selling the central party headquarters, saying it is reviewing various options mainly through workinglevel staff. At the same time, the People Power Party cited President Lee Jaemyung's case under the Public Official Election Act and argued that if the related procedures are completed and the sentence is finalized, the Democratic Party of Korea would also have to return 43.4 billion won in election reimbursement funds.
