Korea University is reviewing a plan to move the traditional ‘train game’ that has been continued for years at the postevent celebration for this year’s Yeonkojeon from the streets outside the campus to inside the campus.
According to reports on the 19th, Korea University is promoting a plan to change the postevent venue on the second day of the Yeonkojeon, held on October 23, to Democracy Square on the Anam Campus, and to replace the free drinking stalls previously set up on Chamsarigil in Anamdong with food trucks on campus. Noise complaints from nearby residents and the financial and administrative burden of running the event were cited as reasons.
However, among students, there has been backlash, with some saying this is effectively a move to eliminate the train game. Some current students and online communities argued that the streetbased format is the core of this culture, and expressed regret over suddenly scaling back a longstanding tradition. Korea University said the matter is still under discussion.
