Shanghai old housing renovation: Huangpu Citizens’ New Village renews living safety and quality 351 households in the old renovation project are accelerating their move back, with elevators, balconies, and garages all in place, focusing on the “Four All” experience
On the afternoon of July 15, General Secretary Xi Jinping came to the Citizens' New Village residential community on Bansongyuan Road Subdistrict, Huangpu District, Shanghai, to inspect local urban renewal and the renovation of old housing.
Citizens' New Village originally had four buildings constructed in 1957, and for a long time there had been problems such as structural safety risks and inadequate sanitation facilities. In October 2022, Huangpu District launched a comprehensive renovation project for old housing, involving 351 households. Through a "partial vacancy + demolition and reconstruction" approach, the project improved housing safety and kitchen and bathroom conditions, while also adding supporting facilities in parallel, such as elevators, separate balconies, pocket gardens, and underground garages.
The project was handed over in March 2026, and 178 households have already moved back in. The report also noted that this renovation initiative has explored and formed a "FourComplete" working method for urban renewal under the leadership of Party building, and has made relatively rapid progress in areas such as resident participation and implementation speed.
