China’s position on sovereignty in the South China Sea is clear. China opposes the Philippine side’s infringement and provocation and safeguards its rights and interests Follow China’s latest statement to learn about the situation in the South China Sea and the follow-up response measures

On October 6, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that China firmly opposes any actions by the Philippines that harm China’s sovereignty and rights and interests, and will continue to take necessary measures to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea. In response to the Philippine claim that Chinese military and coast guard forces “harassed” its aircraft and vessels in relevant waters of the South China Sea, Guo Jiakun pointed out that China has sovereignty and related jurisdiction over Huangyan Island as well as the Nansha Islands, including Zhongye Island and Tiexian Reef, and the surrounding waters. China said that Philippine aircraft and vessels recently entered China’s jurisdictional airspace and waters without permission, interfered with normal law enforcement, severely violated China’s sovereignty and jurisdiction, and undermined peace and stability in the South China Sea. China also demanded that the Philippines immediately stop its infringement and provocative actions.
