Police officer who covered up a prostitution case and advised a witness to recant testimony also receives a 10-month prison sentence on appeal

The 10-month prison sentence for the police officer on charges of helping a criminal evade arrest was also upheld on appeal. Read the ruling, which also confirmed evidence suggesting he encouraged a change in testimony and connected the case to the business owner.

A police officer who was indicted on charges of advising a man who reported a prostitution brokerage establishment to change his statement and connecting him with the owner’s side has been sentenced to 10 months in prison on appeal as well. The Criminal Division 11 of the Chuncheon District Court upheld the firstinstance ruling for police officer A, who was brought to trial on charges of harboring a criminal, and his acquaintance B. C, the complainant who was indicted together, was also sentenced to 10 months in prison on charges of prostitution under the Act on the Punishment of Arrangement of Commercial Sex Acts and of harboring a criminal. The court found them guilty based on circumstances showing that A encouraged C to retract his statement and arranged a meeting with the owner’s side, as well as B’s specific guidance on the false statement content. In the first trial, the owner and the manager each received 8 months in prison, suspended for 2 years.
