Restoring Labor Day as a legal holiday, toward a society that protects the value and safety of labor Check the Democratic Party's promises and on-the-ground actions now

The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 1st, when Labor Day was restored as a national holiday after 63 years, that it would create a society that respects the value of labor. In a written briefing, Democratic Party spokesperson Boo Seungchan said that the Lee Jaemyung administration and the Democratic Party would do their utmost to create workplaces where workers' lives are protected and fair treatment is guaranteed. He explained that this year is the first year to observe ‘Labor Day’ as a national holiday instead of ‘Workers' Day,’ and that this does not simply mean changing the name, but signifies society's recognition of the subjectivity and value of labor. Spokesperson Boo added that simply restoring the name is not enough, and that only when proper compensation and safety are ensured on the ground can society move toward one in which labor is properly respected. Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheongrae visited the Pyeongtaek Port Maritime Traffic Control Center in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, and the Seosan Fire Station in Chungnam Province on the day to encourage workers on duty.
