The remains of Jingdezhen’s handcrafted porcelain industry have been inscribed on the World Heritage List, bearing witness to a thousand-year lineage of porcelain-making and China’s Porcelain Capital Visit 45 heritage sites and experience the contemporary vitality that comes from the integration of traditional craftsmanship with AI and 3D printing
The "Jingdezhen Handcrafted Porcelain Industry Heritage" nominated by China was successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List on July 25, becoming China's 61st World Heritage site and also filling the gap in the list's "porcelain" category.
Located in Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province, the heritage comprises five components: the urban porcelain production center, the ancient Hutian kiln site, the Gaoling porcelain clay mine site, the Changling porcelain stone mine site, and the Jiaotan kiln firewood fuel area. It includes a total of 45 heritage sites, presenting a concentrated view of the development of Jingdezhen's handcrafted porcelain industry system from the 10th to the 19th century.
Jingdezhen is renowned for its millenniumold porcelainmaking tradition. It began firing porcelain in the Five Dynasties period, developed rapidly during the Song and Yuan dynasties, and became the national center of porcelain production in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Today, while protecting traditional craftsmanship, the city is also introducing new technologies such as artificial intelligence and 3D printing into ceramic production and creation, driving the millenniumold porcelain industry to continue to radiate new vitality.
