President Lee mentions his term and summit diplomacy at a meeting with the Korean community in France
President Lee Jae-myung's visit to France strengthens trade, investment, and security cooperation through summit diplomacy Take a look at his remarks at the luncheon with overseas Koreans, as well as the constitutional amendment controversy
President Lee Jaemyung, who is on a state visit to France, said at a luncheon meeting with the Korean community held in Paris on the 9th that his term is clearly limited by the Constitution. Explaining why he scheduled many overseas trips early in his term, he said summit diplomacy can help trade, investment, economic cooperation, and security cooperation, and can also bring vitality to the Korean community.
President Lee explained that diplomatic achievements should be built in the early part of a term so their effects can be used for a longer period, whereas in the later part of a term, even if relationships are formed, the time available to make use of them may be limited. These remarks are drawing attention as they come amid recent political discussions about constitutional revision and whether a second consecutive term is possible.
He also referred to the French Revolution and recent political changes in Korea, saying that restraint is needed when energy is high, and that direction should be set while reducing pain and resistance with the agreement of many people. On this, the final day of his trip, President Lee is scheduled to meet with Bruno Retailleau, Speaker of the French National Assembly, and others to discuss ways for the two countries to cooperate, before returning home on the 10th.
