The 2026 Shanghai Basic Education Forum Releases Consensus, Advocating Learning Evolution to Enhance Future Competitiveness

The 2026 Shanghai Basic Education Forum was held in Shanghai on June 13, and released the "2026 Shanghai Consensus: Reshaping Future Competitiveness Through the Evolution of Learning". The consensus proposes that the learning methods of the AI era should be reexamined, emphasizing that learning evolution capability will become an important component of future competitiveness, and promoting learning to shift from merely acquiring knowledge to cognitive cocreation. The forum also called on all parties to jointly build a "learning community" in the AI era, to maintain the original educational aspiration and warmth amid technological change, and to promote a deeper transformation of basic education. Educators, experts, and representatives from primary and secondary schools from the education departments of Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui, as well as from some paired assistance regions, attended the forum.
