General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions point the way for the high-quality development of basic education

The National Basic Education Work Conference was held in Beijing on July 22. The conference conveyed General Secretary Xi Jinping’s recent important instructions on basic education work. Education workers attending the meeting said they would focus on the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, promote the expansion and improvement of quality in basic education, and strive to provide education that satisfies the people. Leaders of education departments and schools in many places said, in light of their own work, that they would continue efforts in such areas as universal and inclusive preschool education, highquality and balanced compulsory education, revitalization of countylevel high schools, and support for special education. At the same time, they would strengthen the teaching workforce and improve students’ physical and mental health, scientific literacy, and comprehensive abilities. The article also mentioned that various places will promote coordinated education among schools, families, and society, further integrate red resources, science popularization resources, and offcampus practice platforms, and create a better educational environment for the growth of children and adolescents.
