China State Railway Group said that on May 2, the national railway is expected to transport 19.7 million passengers and plans to add 1,222 passenger trains to cope with the holiday travel peak. As of 8:00 a.m. on May 2, Railway 12306 had sold a cumulative 117.18 million train tickets for the May Day holiday travel period. Current popular departure cities include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen, while popular arrival cities are concentrated in Beijing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Nanjing, and other places, with passenger flow relatively concentrated on some popular routes. To meet holiday travel and tourism demands, railway departments across the country have increased transport capacity and, in combination with local tourism resources, operated special tourist trains, fan charter trains, and port shuttle services.
