The Ecological and Environmental Code Will Take Effect, Emphasizing International Cooperation and Governance Experience

China's Ecological and Environmental Code will officially take effect on August 15. On July 28, Zhao Ke, Director of the Department of Regulations and Standards at the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said at a press conference in Beijing that the code embodies the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity and also provides Chinese experience for global ecological and environmental governance. Zhao Ke introduced that the code transforms the relevant obligations in international treaties into domestic legal norms, and reflects the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities in areas such as addressing climate change, emphasizing the responsibility of a major country. He also said that the code summarizes and consolidates China's practical experience in recent years in areas such as reforming the ecological civilization system, tackling pollution prevention and control, and managing new pollutants, while also clearly supporting the strengthening of international exchanges and cooperation in fields such as climate change, biodiversity, marine ecological protection, and deepsea and polar expeditions.
