Prime Minister Kim Minseok said he could step down around the end of June or the beginning of July, adding that after that, it would be more necessary to play a role in the party rather than in the Cabinet.
Speaking on MBC Radio on the 15th, Kim explained that once the confirmation hearing and appointment process for prime minister nominee Han Seongsook are completed, he should be able to hand over the post without any vacancy in the prime minister's office. He said he believes the role needed to support state affairs has shifted from the government to the party.
He also avoided giving a definite answer on whether he would run for the Democratic Party of Korea leadership in August, but did not completely rule out the possibility. He withheld personal comments on party leader Jeong Cheongrae, but noted in relation to the local election results that reflection is needed.
