A pair of red pandas gifted by the Shanghai Zoo to the Taipei Zoo made their first public appearance before Taipei residents on the 29th, and Taipei Mayor Chiang Wanan named them "Lele" and "Tiantian."
The pair of red pandas arrived in Taipei in early June this year. After more than a month of quarantine and acclimation, they have now appeared in the outdoor activity area of the zoo's temperate animals section. The zoo said that, given the recent hot weather, the two red pandas will take turns appearing to take care of their condition.
The report noted that this species exchange stems from a memorandum of cooperation signed at the 2024 "ShanghaiTaipei City Forum," and both sides also hope that through the exchange of species, it can be further extended to areas such as conservation, research, technology, and talent development. Taipei residents came to take photos and interact that day, and many praised the red pandas as extremely cute.
