Police Officers' Association urges police leadership to resign... criticizes response to Jang Yoon-gi case

The National Police Workplace Association held an extraordinary delegates' conference in Daejeon on the 17th and demanded the resignation of the police leadership, citing their responsibility. The Police Workplace Association argued that while field response was inadequate during the handling of the Jang Yoongi case, the main cause of the incident being escalated was the leadership's poor judgment and mismanagement. The Police Workplace Association said that Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Kim Younggeun and Acting Commissioner of the Korean National Police Agency Yoo Jaeseong should take responsibility and step down. It criticized that the internal selfcleaning function did not work properly during the case handling process, and as a result, the morale of frontline police officers and trust in the organization were damaged. The Police Workplace Association also opposed the claim, raised in connection with this case, that the prosecution's supplementary investigative authority should be maintained. It pointed out that calling the entire investigation authority reform into question on the grounds of police organizational mistakes is a distortion, and added that the police leadership's response to the prosecution and outside criticism was also insufficient.
