National Energy Administration: During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, non-fossil energy supply will be significantly increased

The National Energy Administration said that during the “15th FiveYear Plan” period, it will make increasing the supply of nonfossil energy a key focus of the energy transition, promote coordinated development of wind power, solar power, hydropower, nuclear power, and other energy sources, and accelerate the building of a newtype power system to facilitate the greaterscale and higherproportion integration and consumption of new energy. At a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on June 26, Wang Hongzhi, a member of the Party Leadership Group of the National Development and Reform Commission and head of the National Energy Administration, said that energy security and green, lowcarbon transition will continue to be advanced in tandem. At present, China’s energy supply and demand are generally balanced, prices remain stable, and the energy system has shown strong resilience amid fluctuations in external markets. Wang Hongzhi also said that the next step will focus on three areas: first, consolidating the foundation for fossil energy development and reserves, and continuing to strengthen coal base construction as well as oil and gas exploration and development; second, increasing the supply of nonfossil energy and ensuring that more of the newly added electricity demand is met by clean energy; and third, expanding international energy cooperation, promoting import diversification, and safeguarding the security of energy transport channels.
