On June 17, 2026, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, was entrusted by President Xi Jinping to visit King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath of Cambodia, who were in Beijing undergoing medical checkups and recuperation. Wang Yi conveyed to the two the greetings of President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan, and said that the ChinaCambodia friendship has a long history. The Chinese side noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of King Father Norodom Sihanouk's first visit to China. The two sides have long maintained close and friendly relations. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, ChinaCambodia relations have entered a new stage in the new era, with the building of an allweather community with a shared future. Sihamoni and Monineath asked Wang Yi to convey their greetings to President Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan, and thanked the Chinese side for its longterm support for medical care and living arrangements for the Cambodian royal family. They said that the Cambodian side attaches great importance to the traditional friendship between Cambodia and China and hopes that the relations between the two countries will continue to develop.
