On the 17th, Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Geonyoung said about President Lee Jaemyung's recent drop in approval ratings that "the decline in support is serious." In an interview on MBC Radio, Rep. Yoon said the drop in approval ratings is both large in magnitude and rapid in speed, and that the party and the government must respond with exceptional urgency. Regarding the controversy over the withdrawal of indictments and a constitutional amendment for a second term, he said the public has reached the stage of withdrawing its trust in the president. On his Facebook page as well, Rep. Yoon identified the core of the worsening public opinion as a collapse of the trust base. He said the contentious issues need to be sorted out, emphasizing that factors undermining trust in state affairs must be removed. As for the president's press conference scheduled for the 18th, he said there is a need to approach it with a willingness to provide more answers than the public expects, and expressed hope that it would become an opportunity for an uptick in approval ratings and a boost in governing momentum.
