Recovery rate for last year's wildfires and heavy rains remains at 67%

Disaster recovery projects are 66.9% complete, and efforts are speeding up in wildfire- and flood-damaged areas. From all-out completion efforts before the rainy season to strengthened safety management, check the progress status.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, disaster recovery projects in areas affected by the large spring wildfires in the Yeongnam region and the summer downpours last year were 66.9% complete as of the end of April. Of the total 10,135 cases, 6,781 had been completed, with the wildfireaffected areas showing a recovery rate of 54.4% and the rainaffected areas a recovery rate of 68.3%. The government is stepping up efforts to encourage early implementation and prioritize key processes in order to speed up recovery before next month's fullfledged rainy season. In particular, it explained that largescale projects such as forest restoration, village infrastructure development, and river embankment construction have complex processes, making it difficult for many of them to be completed before the rainy season. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to continue joint inspections with related agencies and weekly progress checks, while also streamlining procedures to reduce the administrative burden on local governments. The head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters said that recovery will be completed before the rainy season and that onsite safety management will also be carried out thoroughly.
