The Latin American polling organization “Latinobarómetro” released its 2026 report on October 2, showing that 65% of Latin American respondents believe China’s influence on the region is positive, higher than the 57% who view U.S. influence positively.
The survey covered 17 countries in Latin America and completed more than 19,000 interviews, conducted from May 7 to June 17 this year. Latinobarómetro has long tracked local views on politics, the economy, and international affairs.
After the report was released, it was reported by multiple Latin American media outlets. Results from countries such as Chile, Peru, Argentina, and Brazil show that respondents generally gave China’s influence a more positive assessment than the United States’. Analysts believe that as Latin American countries diversify their external ties, China’s trade and economic exchanges with the region continue to grow, and along with improved access to Chinese goods in local consumer markets, this has influenced the public’s overall impression of China.
