China’s independently developed MCV numerical model achieves global kilometer-level weather forecasting
MCV numerical model released, domestically produced Dawning 8000 enables global 5-kilometer weather forecasting Completes a 10-day forecast in 1 hour, driving China’s meteorological computing into a new stage
China News Network, Zhengzhou, September 15 — China's independently developed MCV numerical model was released in Zhengzhou, Henan, on the same day. Relying on the domestically produced 100,000card AI supercluster "Shuguang 8000", the model can complete weather forecast calculations for the next 10 days at a global 5kilometer resolution within 1 hour.
This achievement was jointly released by Sugon and the Earth System Numerical Prediction Center of the China Meteorological Administration, showing that China has reached international mainstream operational standards in the timeliness of global kilometerlevel numerical forecast calculations and has passed batch forecast quality inspections.
The report noted that global kilometerlevel numerical forecasting is an important direction in international meteorological technology competition, with very high requirements for computing power, stability, and result reliability. This breakthrough is seen as progress in collaborative innovation between an independently developed numerical model and domestic computing power, and it also provides a foundation for advancing toward higherprecision atmospheric simulations. The two teams have also completed a global 3kilometerresolution simulation test.
