OECD, Reading Achievement of 15-Year-Olds Falls Compared to 3 Years Ago

In OECD PISA 2025, Korea's results in science, math, and reading all exceed the average Take a look at the causes of the decline in reading and digital learning capabilities as well

In the 2025 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) released by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), 15yearold students in Korea scored above the OECD average in science, mathematics, and reading. However, the reading score fell by 14 points from 2022, marking the largest decline. Korea's average scores were 526 in science, 522 in mathematics, and 501 in reading. These are higher than the OECD averages of 482 in science, 463 in mathematics, and 461 in reading. However, in reading, there was also a change in which the proportion of students at the lower proficiency level increased and the proportion of students at the higher proficiency level decreased. The Ministry of Education said it would conduct further analysis, noting that the use of digital media and SNS, as well as reading motivation and attitudes, may have affected achievement. In this assessment, learning competence in digital environments was also measured for the first time, and Korean students' ability to solve computing problems was found to be above the OECD average.
