The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Holds an International Symposium on Scientific Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Protection in Beijing

The International Symposium on Science and Technology Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Protection, hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was held in Beijing from July 31 to August 1. The conference took "Science and Technology Exploring the Source of Civilization, Heritage Uniting Humanity with One Heart" as its theme, and discussed six major topics, including tracing the origins of civilization, social evolution, technological innovation, and heritage protection. More than 300 experts and scholars from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Romania, Australia, Canada, Greece, Egypt, Uzbekistan, and other countries and regions attended the conference. Gao Xiang, President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Qiao Yunfei, Deputy Director of the National Cultural Heritage Administration of China; as well as guests from Uzbekistan and Greece attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Participants generally believed that technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, hyperspectral imaging, digital twins, and computational archaeology are providing new tools for archaeological surveys, cultural relic detection, heritage protection, and public display. The Chinese side stated that it will strengthen cooperation with relevant institutions in various countries, promote joint archaeological and cultural heritage protection research, and facilitate exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations.
