Cui Tiankai: To Strengthen Mutual Trust Between China and the U.S., We Should Start by Doing the Right Things
Mutual trust between China and the U.S.: Cui Tiankai says to focus on doing the right small things and build trust Understand strategic intentions and carry out actions to steadily improve China-U.S. relations
Cui Tiankai, former Chinese ambassador to the United States, said in Beijing on September 15 that the key to enhancing mutual trust between China and the United States is to focus on doing the right things. Even small matters can build trust through practical stepbystep actions.
In a dialogue on related topics at the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, Cui said that understanding each other's strategic intentions and trying to view the other side in a realistic, rational, and objective way, while also learning about the other side's history and culture, are important starting points for building mutual trust, but this requires sustained progress and implementation in action.
He also pointed out that when the Chinese side says it is willing to be friends and partners with the U.S. side, the U.S. side should believe that this is sincere, because a stable and good ChinaU.S. relationship is in the interests of both countries and also serves the broader interests of the international community.
