Shark sighting in a downtown waterway in Busan enters its fourth day... childbirth theory is unlikely
Busan North Port shark sighting draws attention, with reports suggesting it is a bull shark and observations Check out the latest response and expert analysis amid the weekend crowds quickly
A shark measuring 3 to 4 meters in length was observed for the fourth day in a row in the waterway of Bukhang Waterfront Park in Choryangdong, Donggu, Busan. Visitors flocked to the site to see the shark, and it was reported that tens of thousands of people visited over the weekend.
The Busan Metropolitan Government and the National Institute of Fisheries Science are estimating that this shark is a bull shark. Bull sharks are a species that mainly lives in subtropical waters and are classified as a fish species with a risk of attack.
Online, speculation arose that the shark may have given birth, based on eyewitness accounts that a fish about 1 meter long was found with it, but experts considered the possibility low. The National Institute of Fisheries Science took a cautious stance on the related speculation, noting that bull sharks are a species that gives birth to multiple young.
Experts estimated that the shark is circling the same section because the structure of the waterway makes it unable to find an exit properly. The relevant authorities are also reviewing a plan to guide the shark out to open sea if it becomes weakened.
