Adhere to Independence and Self-Reliance: Our Friends Are All Over the World

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, June 21. This article reviews the diplomatic path China has followed since the founding of New China, persevering in independence and selfreliance amid a complex international environment, as well as the historical context of developing friendly relations with Asian, African, and Latin American countries. The article notes that from the mid1950s to the mid1960s, under the Cold War framework, China faced external pressure and challenges, but still emphasized safeguarding national sovereignty, national dignity, and national interests, while actively supporting Asian, African, and Latin American countries in their struggle for national independence and development and construction. The article also points out that during this period, China gradually expanded diplomatic exchanges with more countries, and the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France in 1964 was an important development; the Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Major Achievements and Historical Experience of the Party's Centennial Struggle also summarizes “adhering to independence and selfreliance” as an important historical experience. The article concludes by emphasizing that China will continue to follow the path of peaceful development, oppose hegemony and power politics, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
