It has been found that in corporate HR settings recently, cases have been increasing in which parents directly intervene in their children’s interviews and workplace life. At a midsized manufacturing company in the Seoul metropolitan area, there was a case where an applicant’s mother came to the interview site and asked that the pressure questions be reduced, and after placement, she even demanded a department transfer. In a joint survey with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 57.1% of 429 corporate HR staff said they had received contact from a family member regarding an employee’s workplace life. Parents were the most common callers, and 24.9% said they had experienced family involvement in the hiring process. The article introduced a variety of cases, from inquiries about interview schedules before joining the company to requests for resignation processing and complaints about company dinners. Experts analyzed that high housing costs, rising prices, and excessive closeness with children are affecting this phenomenon.
