The Ministry of Water Resources has initiated a Level IV emergency response for flood defense in Sichuan

According to a WeChat public account of China Water Resources, affected by the combined influence of the southwest monsoon and cold air, from July 30 to August 3, some areas in central and southeastern Sichuan are expected to experience heavy to torrential rain, and the main stem of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River as well as major tributaries such as the Min River, Tuo River, and Jialing River may see a significant rise in water levels. At 18:00 on July 29, the Ministry of Water Resources activated a Level IV emergency response for flood prevention in Sichuan Province, and required local water resources departments to strengthen monitoring and forecasting of rainfall and water conditions, promptly issue alerts, reinforce duty shifts and consultation and assessment, scientifically dispatch flood control projects, closely monitor reservoir safety during the flood season, and guard against floods in small and medium rivers and mountain flood disasters. Relevant departments were also required to strictly implement the predisaster warning "callandresponse" mechanism, promptly organize the evacuation of people from dangerous areas, and effectively safeguard the safety of the people's lives and property.
