Lee Jae-myung's visit to the U.S., expectations for major memory contracts with Samsung Electronics and SK hynix Check the investment trends, from AI data center demand to energy diversification
With President Lee Jaemyung's visit to San Francisco, the possibility has been raised that Samsung Electronics and SK hynix may sign largescale memory semiconductor supply deals with U.S. big tech companies. Kim Yongbeom, the Presidential Chief of Staff for Policy, said at a press briefing for foreign media that the two companies are each pursuing new longterm contracts.
Kim explained that the agreements could also include definitive arrangements with companies that have demand for AI data centers or companies seeking investment. He noted that the scale of the contracts could be very large, even compared with major domestic investment announcements.
The Presidential Office is also considering diversifying energy supplies to support the electricity demand needed for AI data centers. It said that various technologies, including offshore wind power, solar power, pumpedstorage hydropower, ESS, CCUS, and SMR, could be included among the support targets.
