Democratic Party Convention Leadership Race Gets Underway
The ruling Democratic Party's convention primary race has begun in earnest, with Kim Min-seok, Jeong Cheong-rae, Song Young-gil, and Ko Min-jung running. Check out each candidate's strategy as they compete on cooperation with the president, prosecutorial reform, and youth vision.
The race officially got underway as Democratic Party lawmakers Ko Minjung, Kim Minseok, Song Younggil, and Chung Cheongrae, who are running in the party's Aug. 17 convention, completed their registration for the party leadership election on the 16th.
Lawmaker Kim Minseok emphasized cooperation with the president and a victory in the general election, proposing a competition of visions for the party. Meanwhile, Lawmaker Chung Cheongrae courted the party's core supporters by putting forward issues of prosecutorial reform, including the abolition of the supplementary investigation authority.
Lawmaker Song Younggil dismissed the possibility of consolidating with other candidates, while Lawmaker Ko Minjung launched her schedule in the Honam region, touting a young Democratic Party centered on youth.
