In the Chuncheon District Court appellate trial, a man in his 30s who was brought to trial on charges of assaulting his girlfriend and confining her for an extended period was sentenced to four years in prison.
According to the court, A assaulted his girlfriend in August last year and confined her because she had not deleted photos and messages she had taken with another man. He continued the assault while locking the victim inside his home and the pub he operated, and the victim suffered serious injuries, including contusions all over her body and an orbital fracture.
The appellate panel handed down a harsher sentence than the original ruling, taking into account the victim's deteriorated eyesight and psychological aftereffects, as well as the victim's side refusing to accept a settlement and calling for severe punishment.
