On June 28 in Beijing, Cliff Kupchan, chairman of the Eurasia Group and a scholar of international relations, said that he expects U.S.China relations to remain in "constructive strategic stability" over the next two years, and that this trend will last at least until the end of 2027.
Kupchan made the remarks at the "Mingde Strategic Dialogue" hosted by the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China. He said that the current global order is under significant pressure, international governance capacity is declining, and the world is entering a stage characterized by the interplay of multipolar competition and geopolitical risks.
Speaking about U.S.China relations, Kupchan said that the United States has realized it is difficult to truly contain China in areas such as chips and artificial intelligence, while the two countries each have balancing power at the economic level. He also said that the backdrop of nuclear weapons reduces the likelihood of direct war between major powers.
