Professor Bae Choong-sik of KAIST appointed as the 18th president

KAIST has appointed Professor Bae Chungsik of the Department of Mechanical Engineering as its 18th president. With this appointment, the presidential vacancy that had continued since former President Lee Kwanghyung's term ended in February last year has been resolved after 1 year and 4 months.
Presidentelect Bae graduated from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University and earned a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Imperial College London in the UK. After joining KAIST in 1998, he served as head of the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Systems Engineering and dean of the College of Engineering, and is regarded as an expert in ecofriendly energy and carbonneutral power engineering.
The KAIST Board of Directors selected Professor Bae from among the final three candidates. The new president will be formally appointed after the consent of the Minister of Education and the approval of the Minister of Science and ICT.
