Postal rates raised for the first time in 5 years, standard mail 500 won from July

Domestic standard mail rates increase, 500 won applied to standard mail items from July 1 Check the reasons behind the increase and the rate changes by category, and prepare in advance

The Korea Post will raise domestic regular mail rates starting July 1. The most commonly used standard mail item will be adjusted from 430 won to 500 won, and other brackets will also be raised uniformly by 70 won. This increase is the first in about five years since 2021. It is attributed to growing losses in the postal business as mail volume decreases due to the spread of email and social media, while labor costs and the expenses of maintaining delivery infrastructure continue to rise. Because basic postage is a public utility fee, government consultation was required, and Korea Post has been raising the need to make rates more realistic. With this adjustment, increase rates of about 15.6% to 17.5% will apply depending on the size standard.
