The Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences recently held an academic seminar in Beijing to discuss “advancing the construction of an independent knowledge system for philosophy and social sciences through the transformation of research paradigms.” The meeting was cohosted by the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the research base for forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and was part of a related series of academic activities. Experts at the meeting believed that, against the backdrop of the accelerating evolution of a onceinacentury transformation in the world, promoting the transformation of research paradigms in ethnology and other disciplines is an urgent practical need. Several scholars proposed that, based on China’s own practice and in combination with Marxist ethnic theory and its sinicized achievements, China should further improve its independent theoretical and methodological system, and promote related research to refine concepts, propositions, and knowledge from practical issues. At the seminar, experts also exchanged views on issues such as the discipline development of the Study of the Chinese Nation as a Community, talent cultivation, discourse system, and international dialogue, and released a number of research achievements, including multilingual text recognition models, tools and databases, as well as related content on building an independent knowledge system of Marxist ethnic theory.
