Kim Min-seok, Jeong Cheong-rae, and Song Young-gil Advance to the Democratic Party Leadership Final

The main candidates for the Democratic Party of Korea's Aug. 17 convention chairmanship race have been finalized as lawmakers Kim Minseok, Jeong Cheongrae, and Song Younggil. Lawmaker Ko Minjung and former Gangjin County Council member Kim Bomi were eliminated in the preliminary election. This preliminary election was conducted by taking into account party members with voting rights, members of the central committee, and a public opinion poll of the general public, and the party election commission did not disclose the ranking of each candidate. The turnout was tallied at 37.44% combined for the central committee members and party members with voting rights. In the main race, the party chair will be decided based on votes from national delegates, party members with voting rights, and a public opinion poll. Lawmaker Kim Minseok emphasized completing judicial reform, lawmaker Jeong Cheongrae stressed party member unity and the party's reform identity, and lawmaker Song Younggil highlighted a party that gives hope to the younger generation.
