According to a report on the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission, on May 7, 2026, Hou Weidong, former member of the Party Committee and vice president of Bank of Communications Co., Ltd., was expelled from the Party for serious violations of discipline and law. In accordance with regulations, his related benefits were revoked and his illicit gains from violations of discipline and law were confiscated. The suspected criminal matters and related assets have been transferred to the procuratorate for review and prosecution in accordance with the law.
The notice said that Hou Weidong was found to have lost his ideals and convictions, and was involved in issues such as resisting organizational scrutiny, improperly accepting banquets and travel arrangements, seeking benefits for others in employee recruitment and promotion while accepting money and property, and allegedly using his position to help others in project contracting and loan financing, as well as illegally accepting huge sums of money and property.
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission said that Hou Weidong seriously violated multiple Party disciplines, constituted serious jobrelated violations and was suspected of the crime of bribery. He remained unrepentant and did not stop after the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, so he was subjected to serious punishment in accordance with the law and discipline.
