The Chinese Mission to the European Union responded in Brussels on June 17 to the EU's latest round of sanctions against Russia. When the EU announced its new proposal on June 15, it added four Chinese companies to the sanctions list.
China expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition, saying that the European side had ignored China's repeated solemn démarches and had shifted blame onto China over the Ukraine crisis, smearing and vilifying it. China stressed that China has consistently upheld an objective and fair position on the Ukraine issue, is committed to promoting peace talks, and has played a constructive role in advancing a political resolution.
China also pointed out that it opposes unilateral sanctions that lack authorization from the UN Security Council and have no basis in international law, and said it would take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
