Ruling party elects 11 committee chairs unilaterally... People Power Party protests

On the 30th, the National Assembly elected 10 standing committee chairs, including the Legislation and Judiciary Committee chair, and one chair of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts at a plenary session, led by the Democratic Party of Korea. All of the elected chairs are members of the Democratic Party, and the People Power Party strongly protested. In this vote, Rep. Seo Youngkyo was chosen as chair of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, Rep. Yoo Dongsoo as chair of the Political Affairs Committee, and Rep. Cho Seungrae as chair of the Planning and Finance Committee. Rep. Song Kiheon was also elected chair of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, Rep. Jin Sungjoon as chair of the National Defense Committee, Rep. Kim Youngjin as chair of the Public Administration and Security Committee, and Rep. Lee Jaejung as chair of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee. In addition, Rep. Seo Samseok was elected chair of the Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee, Rep. Kim Jongho as chair of the Climate, Energy, Environment and Labor Committee, Rep. Han Byungdo as chair of the Steering Committee, and Rep. Lee Kwangjae as chair of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts. The People Power Party said it had submitted related resignation letters, claiming that the assignment of standing committee members and the election of committee chairs were carried out unilaterally.
