Qinghai Mangya Photography Library: Books and Images Light Up the Gobi Step into the Hehe Book Bar and experience the new connections brought by public welfare support for Qinghai
Deep in the Gobi Desert of Mangya, Qinghai, a publicinterest library with photography as its theme is gradually becoming a window connecting the local area with the outside world. The article расскаks how the Zhejiangsupported Qinghai publicinterest project, after taking root locally, has brought more opportunities for this remote city to be seen and understood through books, images, and volunteer service.
In the summer of 2024, after longtime public welfare worker Weng Hongying visited Mangya for the first time, she decided to use her camera to document the area's natural scenery and the daily lives of people from all ethnic groups. Later, under the guidance of the Zhejiang Aid Qinghai Headquarters, this photography library took root locally and expanded into multiple "Hehe Book Bars," bringing reading resources into pastoral areas.
The library has also changed the life of local volunteer Xian Baja. Starting with organizing bookshelves and receiving visitors, he gradually became able to introduce Mangya's scenery, photography methods, and travel routes to visitors in Mandarin, becoming a storyteller for his hometown. The report noted that in less than two years since opening, the library's collection has reached 2.2 million yuan in value, and it has also held photography sharing sessions and competitions, helping people of different ethnic groups deepen their understanding through communication.
