The Taiwan Affairs Office stated that Taiwan's economy and trade cannot be "de-Mainlandized"

Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said at the regular press conference on July 2 that Taiwan's economic and trade relations cannot be 'demainlandized.' She pointed out that the ECFA is an important economic and trade cooperation arrangement signed on the basis of the '1992 Consensus,' and since its implementation it has brought tangible benefits to businesses and people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Zhu Fenglian said that the Democratic Progressive Party authorities refuse to recognize the '1992 Consensus' and have imposed multiple trade restrictions on the mainland, which has affected the implementation of ECFArelated agreements and also limited more Taiwan businesses from benefiting. She stressed that the root of the problem lies in the Taiwan authorities' deliberate interference in crossstrait industrial and supply chain cooperation. She also mentioned that crossstrait trade reached US$314.33 billion in 2025, and in the first five months of this year crossstrait trade continued to grow, showing that economic ties across the Strait are still strengthening. Zhu Fenglian said that strengthening economic cooperation and promoting integrated development across the Strait is in the common interests of both sides.
