The National Fire Agency announced on the 12th that it will promote and appoint Choi Yongcheol, acting head of the Gyeonggido Fire and Disaster Headquarters, to vice commissioner effective the 15th. Vice Commissioner Choi, who is newly appointed, entered the service as part of the 10th class of fire officer candidates and has served as chief of the Uiwang Fire Station, head of the Sejong Fire Headquarters, and head of the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters.
Vice Commissioner Choi said he will put public safety first and strengthen prevention and response systems in preparation for changing disasters. The National Fire Agency also said on the same day that Commissioner Kim Seungryong would be processed as having resigned by request effective the 15th.
Commissioner Kim was appointed last March after former Commissioner Heo Seokgon was suspended from duty over allegations of involvement in the emergency martial law, and this resignation came three weeks after the Blue House ordered an inspection on the 22nd of last month.
